To get a break from the people, we ventured off the main path for a bit, and the boys enjoyed being "explorers in the woods". But soon after, we returned to the masses, and joined them in a giant line up for Mr Tasty icecream. :-)
Mother's Day, the perfect day for seeing the Cherry Blossoms... (click on first photo below) Apparently we were not the only people in Toronto with such an idea!! High Park was jammed, with narry a parking spot in sight. Nevertheless, we managed to enjoy several hours amidst the throng and under the pale pink, floral clouds!

Helping a teacher candidate load selected photos onto her data stick this morning, in preparation for Friday night's year-end celebrations, I came across this shot (left) from September. A few of the core faculty gathered outside the building before heading over to chapel. What a fun group of people to spend a year with! Teaching part time at Tyndale's B.Ed. Dept in the past allowed me to get to know some of the faculty there in a superficial way, but this year opened my mind to so much professional learning as I developed strong, reflective relationships with my colleagues at the faculty. So much laughter, so many shared prayers and such rich dialogue... what a treasure the year has been! As I head back to a classroom full time next year to teach Grade 3, I know I will continue to cherish my part time work at Tyndale... Above: selected GOs developed with the teacher candidates during the DI class I taught this year. I bought a new stove this morning -- only $65! What a bargain!!!
Some readers may recall "Dave's Smokeless Stoves" from my Honduras Blogs... just this morning I rec'd an email detailing the ongoing success of this project in the Balibrea community near where Dave and Esther live, and the exciting news that donors can now purchase an Ecocina Stove right online! To donate to the stove project, check out LAM Canada's website http://www.lamcanada.ca and follow the directions under the "Donations" tab. Please make sure to indicate the funds are for the stove projects. If you donate online through CanadaHelps, you can select ¨Balibrea Community Development" from the "Fund/Designation" dropdown box. I bought my stove this morning, from the comfort of my weatherproof home, in front of my high speed Internet connection, using Paypal! (They also accept most major cards.) Over the past several months I have been attempting to facilitate an appreciation of looking at and making "Art" with a Kindergarten class I cover for 55 minutes once a week. This morning, we looked at a French artist's work entitled "L'horrible Chat des Neiges". Using only two pieces of paper and a black crayon, we attempted to reproduce our own "horrible snow cats". And miraculously, despite various fights erupting over glue-sharing and no scissors (they were to rip the paper for their jagged mountains, rather than cut it), somehow an assortment of not-so-horrible snowcats emerged from the process!
Well, and some Christmas trees and an arm-less person. |
About Vera...After writing for several teacher and multiple birth publications, including ETFO's Voice Magazine, Multiple Moments, and the Bulletwin, Vera turned her written attention to prolific blogging for some years, including BiB, "Learn to Fly with Vera!" and SMARTbansho . Homeschooling 4 was her travel blog in Argentina. She now spends more time on her Instagram (@schalgzeug_usw) than her blog (pictures are worth a thousand words?!)
